To honor and execute the Promise of Abraham Lincoln.
"To care for him who shall of borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan." -Abraham Lincoln
Several years ago we discovered that some of our nation's most vulnerable veterans i.e. mental health, drug & alcohol, physically incapacitated, veterans were being taken advantage of financially, and it was the spark that ignited the fire. After much research we discovered that there were literally no veteran service organizations providing this much needed service for our nation's veterans. We then sprang into action to develop this program, the first of its kind.
We feel it would be a dishonor to these veterans to let them be taken advantage of financially, regardless of their physical or mental capacity. We do not judge them but rather Honor and Execute the promise made by President Lincoln to all veterans "To care for him who shall of borne the battle and for his widow and for his orphan"
Operation Stand Down Kentucky is a Professional Veteran Fiduciary/Representative Payee Program that focuses on paying a veteran's debts and monthly fixed expenses. A veteran can either be appointed by the VA/Federal Government or voluntarily admit themselves into the program.
We believe with the combination of Case Management and Fiduciary/Representative Payee services, it better serves a veteran that struggles with any type of vice or addiction i.e. drugs, alcohol, gambling and the list goes on. This is also important to our veterans that have been diagnosed with mental illness and fall into our most vulnerable category.
Through our research and data, we believe that any of our nation's most vulnerable veterans that do struggle with addiction to anything makes it almost impossible to manage their finances properly. By providing this much needed service to our nation's most vulnerable veteran's we know that the veteran stands a much better chance at maintaining stable housing and living a healthier productive lifestyle mentally and physically.
With our assistance we do a simple budget for the veteran, pay their monthly expenses and simply allot the rest of their disposable income as they choose i.e. weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
Providing this unique service to veterans gave us an inside look at some of the problems encountered by those that live in subsidized housing. Much of the available low-income housing is not in an environment that is conducive to the success of the veteran. Many times, this leads to the veteran needing to be relocated and creates redundant work.
By providing this service we noticed after placing some of our veterans into subsidized housing areas that they were not conducive to their success and that we were doing redundant work. What we mean by this, is constantly relocating the veteran based off environmental factors that impacted their stability and future success.
We have now implemented Operation Habitat for Veterans. The goal of Operation Habitat for Veterans is to create an affordable housing model as a solution for Veterans. With the growing shortage of affordable housing across the country we believe it is imperative to provide affordable, safe, and comfortable housing for our nation’s heroes that better suits their unique needs.
Our amazing team of regulars and part-time volunteers are committed to helping veterans. We take our convictions and turn them into action. Think you would be a good fit?
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions for veterans. Your generous donation will go fund Operation Habitat for Vets by allowing us to continue building affordable homes for our nations veterans.
